Because of the ethnic stresses in this country, it is a cause of particular satisfaction to this old Anglo (Jewish to boot) to have received the following about my autobiography, SAYING NO TO POWER, from Prof. Carlos Munoz of the Ethnic Studies Dept. at UC Berkeley: "Bill Mandel's inspirational autobiography is not only about his life and his participation in struggles fopr social justice and human rights, but is also an important chapter in the history of the Left in the United States. As such, it should be required readingin college U.S. history courses." To which I would comment that Munoz' remarkable autobiographical interview in the current East Bay Express, 9/17/99, is the best thumbnail of Chicano history and struggles I have ever seen. Those members of the freepacifica list who have expressed doubts about the continued need for affirmative action should particularly read it.
