I just finished reading The Beverly Malibu by Katherine V. Forrest. It's a murder mystery with a delightful political twist -- the main victim is a guy who had appeared many years before as "a friendly witness" before HUAC, & the 2nd victim is his main ideological supporter at the Beverly Malibu apartments in Southern California. Lots of 50s history is woven into the plot, with personal stories of the lifelong damage that HUAC had wreaked on people to further the political agenda of opportunist reactionaries in the government.
By the time I was finished with The Beverly Malibu I had decided to take "Saying 'No' to Power" off the shelf and actually read it.
